Critical Care Physician:
Diagnoses and treats all aspects of acute and emergency care for the critically ill or injured patient.

Examines patient to determine medical problem, using physical findings, diagnostic images, laboratory test results, and patient's statements as diagnostic aids. Refers patient to surgeon or other specialist when need for further medical assistance is indicated. Provides direct clinical services for critically ill patients with multi-organ trauma or multi-system failure, according to established protocols. Obtains patient health histories and completes physical examinations. Orders and interprets appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests. Explains the necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of procedure(s) to patients, patient’s family, staff, and healthcare learners. Performs therapeutic or diagnostic procedures based upon patient’s clinical status. Documents patient preparation and response to procedure(s). Formulates and implements treatment plan for acute illness management in collaboration with the designated primary supervising physician and/or attending back-up physician(s). Documents all prescriptions in patient’s medical record. Assesses patient for change in status and institutes appropriate interventions.
