Pest Control Technician:
Controls pests such as insects, rodents, rabbits, possums and pest birds in parks and reserves, on farmland, and in urban areas.
Inspects buildings, industrial land, farmland, houses, gardens, parks, and reserves for any signs of pests.
Pinpoints pests causing damage and
ascertains extent of pest problem.
Figures and prepares treatment necessary to fix the problem. Lays bait, sprayed chemicals, and sets traps. Advises people how to keep properties and buildings free from animal and insect pests.
For fumigation, examines porosity of walls and roof, based on knowledge of construction techniques, to determine method of sealing house; measures inside dimensions of rooms with rule, and calculates volume of fumigant required and cost to owner; tapes vents; puts tarpaulins over building; posts warning signs and padlocks doors; discharges gas into building through hose. Sprays or dusts chemicals in rooms or work areas and sets mechanical traps to destroy pests. May fumigate clothing and house furnishings in vaults at business establishment.
