Civil Design Engineer:
Plans and conducts engineering studies on design for products, associated and subsystems components, and structures such as airports, bridges, buildings, channels, dams, harbors, irrigation systems, pipelines, power plants, railroads, roads, sewage systems, tunnels, and water supply. Analyzes engineering proposals, process requirements, and related technical data pertaining to design.
Applies civil engineering principles to design, modify, or develop facilities, testing, machines, equipment, or processes. Analyzes data to determine feasibility of designs considering costs, time limitations, planning, and other technical and economic factors. Analyzes reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, tests, and aerial photographs on soil composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics, and other topographical and geologic data to plan and design project. Calculates cost and determines feasibility of project based on analysis of collected data, applying knowledge and techniques of engineering and advanced mathematics. Prepares or directs preparation and modification of reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, environmental impact studies, and designs for project. Inspects construction site to monitor progress and ensures conformance to engineering plans, specifications, and construction and safety standards. Analyzes test data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications. Confers with research and other engineering personnel and prepares design modifications as required. Evaluates engineering test results for possible application to development of systems or other uses. Studies engineering and technical publications to keep abreast of technological changes and developments in industry. May direct construction and maintenance activities at project site.
