Job Description: Plans and conducts experiments or investigations in field-crop problems and develops new methods of growing crops to secure more efficient production, higher yield, and improved quality. Studies way to increase crop productivity, nutritional value, and quality of seed. Requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree in field of specialty. Positions covered by this definition are characterized by the inclusion of work that requires an understanding of both theories and principles. Excludes paraprofessional positions.: Plans and carries out breeding studies at experiment stations or farms to develop and improve varieties of field crops, such as cotton, tobacco, or cereal, with respect to characteristics, such as yield, quality, health, adaptation to specific soils or climates, and resistance to diseases and pests. Discovers methods of farming to help protect welfare of crops and the environment. Studies soils and crop production to discover best methods of planting, cultivation, harvesting, and effects of various climatic conditions. Develops methods for control of noxious weeds, crop diseases, and insect pests.
