Job Description:

Creates detailed design documents containing descriptions of all aspects of an electronic game, including mission, plot, rules, flow charts, sound, artwork, and special features, for the Graphic Artists, Sound Designers, and Programmers to create the software that results in the video game. Writes and diagrams a game in a game design document, which includes information about the game's characters, worlds, story, and other details. Builds the interactive elements in a video game, such as buildings and terrain, for a portion of the game using 3D modeling packages. Follows design documentation, including mechanics, guidelines, and mission outlines, provided by the Senior or Lead Video Game Designer. May adapt various scripting languages and tools. May collaborate with other members of the team to communicate the game vision to the development, production, and marketing staff. May assume responsibility for the overall design vision for the video game, if a Lead Video Game Designer, and drive the game design through every phase, including concept, presentation, implementation, tuning, and release. May oversee and assess work created by other Video Game Designers on the project, if a Lead Video Game Designer. May outline level objectives and flow within a video game and develop design documentation for that level, if a Senior Level Video Game Designer. May place and tune game play elements, artificial intelligence, and other game elements, depending on the organization's requirements and if a Senior Level Video Game Designer. Less
