Job Description:

Provides direct patient care to patients consistent with nursing aide program preparation under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse or LPN within a long-term care facility. Prepares patients, equipment, and supplies for specific procedures and provides manual assistance as required. This position requires completion of a nurse's aide program and certification. Obtains and records patient data for medical records noting and informing RN/LPN of information collected. Administers treatment and personal care procedures to patients to include feeding, bathing, shaving, changing clothing, cleaning, and trimming fingernails, bed-making, assisting with ambulation, enemas, skin care, and bowel and bladder elimination. Provides such additional care as required to meet the personal needs and comfort of assigned patients. Assists physicians and nurses with physical examinations by helping position patients, changing non-sterile dressing, and weighing patients. Notes and reports any changes in patient's condition. Takes and records vital signs, records input and output, applies ice bags, and administers enemas. Turns and positions patients, feeds patients as necessary, and provides patients with fresh drinking water. Performs finger sticks for blood glucose testing with appropriate training.
