Job Description:

Supervises the administrative process, schedule, and shipment of materials or other commodities from one location to another at the most cost efficient manner meeting both the need of the organization and its customers. Selects and negotiates contracts with common carriers when needed. Determines routes for and schedules in-bound freight. Negotiates rate with common carrier to ensure that lowest possible freight charges are incurred. Audits all freight charges; files claims on overcharges. Files claims on shortages, damages, and overages. Allocates freight charges to appropriate departments. Works closely with buyers and management, properly prioritizing scheduling of in-bound goods. Processing of international letters of credit, US Customs documents, bills of lading, insurance, and brokers documents. Coordinates and schedules shipment of foreign purchased goods with overseas factories and/or the agents, custom house brokers, and freight forward ocean carriers. Audits all freight and custom duty charges; files claims on overcharges. Coordinates the transfer of goods between warehouses and among stores. Monitors all storage charges to ensure that containers and trailers are scheduled and unloaded in a timely manner. Ensures compliance with Department of Transportation regulations. Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet department deadlines. Recommends measures to improve methods, performance, and quality of service, and suggests changes in working conditions to increase efficiency. Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists employees in solving work problems.
