Job Description:

Samples, observes, and tests soil, concrete, masonry, steel, and asphalt or paving materials in the field and in a laboratory. Provides quality acceptance to assure the requirements and intent of construction project plans and specifications are accomplished according to the American Society for Testing and Materials. Performs a full range of materials testing in the field and/or laboratory, including sieve analysis, plasticity index, asphalt Marshall plugs, and unit weights. Uses specialized equipment and apparatus for testing of samples, including calibrated scales and weights, compressive testing machine, sieves and shaker, nuclear density gauge, and related equipment. Performs sand cone densities and nuclear densities on/in trenches. Performs concrete slump tests and prepares cylinders. Obtains and reports ambient and concrete temperatures and ticket information from material suppliers for data sheets. Collects native proctor samples of soil, aggregate base course, and asphalt, when required during construction phases. Cuts asphalt cores with the unit weight determinations. Makes concrete cylinders, and strips and caps them to determine the compressive strength of the concrete. Performs leak tests on radioactive materials. Maintains and calibrates concrete cones and rods to comply with Federal, State, and city guidelines and regulations. Utilizes prepared forms for accurate and clear test results which contain basic math information based on percentages, ratios, and proportions according to, and in compliance with, standards and specifications. Performs annual calibrations and inventories of laboratory equipment to comply with radiation regulatory agencies. Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with company policies and procedures. Works in a safe manner and reports unsafe activity and conditions.
