Job Description:

Manages and coordinates activities of a small staff engaged in computer operations, computer systems, computer programming, and company's network to assure effective computer resources are provided to users. Assigns personnel and schedules workflow to facilitate production. Analyzes performance indicators such as number of transactions per second, response time, and number of programs being processed to ensure system is operating efficiently. Studies problems and capabilities, and develops solutions for improved operating procedures, alternate processing methods, communications, information flow, management reporting, and operational efficiency. Directs training or trains personnel in operation of computers, local area network(s), and peripheral and off-line auxiliary equipment. Confers with programming personnel and operates computer system to test new and revised programs. Responsible for evaluating, developing, and maintaining, along with usage of, telecommunication systems. Directs insertion of program instructions and input data into computer, and observes operations. Operates computers to assist operators in locating and overcoming error conditions. Makes minor program and input data revisions through computer console to maintain operations. Notifies programming and maintenance personnel if unable to locate and correct cause of error or failure. Revises operating schedule to adjust for delays. Prepares or reviews records and reports of production, operating, and down time. Recommends changes in programs, routines, and quality control standards. Coordinates flow of work between shifts to ensure continuity. May present to management recommendations related to purchasing and installing hardware, software, and telecommunication equipment. May perform minor equipment repairs. Less
