Designs, develops, coordinates, and monitors the installation and operation of well completions, and devises methods to improve oil and gas well production. Designs a successful well completion system by selecting equipment that is adequate for both subsurface environments and application in order to achieve maximum production, taking into consideration the various functions under which the completion equipment must operate and the effects any changes in temperatures or differential pressure will have on the equipment. Directs and monitors the completion and evaluation of exploratory wells per design specifications. Prepares well completion plans including casing program, mud selection and methods for recycling drilling fluids. Performs detailed cost estimates and risk assessments for completion work, equipment, and operations. Monitors production rates, and adjusts equipment to ensure the well and reservoir produces under ideal circumstances. Manages the interface between the reservoir and the well, including perforations, sand control, artificial lift, downhole flow control, and downhole monitoring equipment. Supervises the removal of drilling equipment and waste; evaluates findings to test and use in developing or designing equipment or processes; simulates reservoir performance for different recovery techniques; and tests machinery and equipment to ensure it is safe and complies with performance specifications. Inspects oil and gas wells, takes samples, interprets drilling and testing information. Supervises well modification and stimulation programs to maximize oil and gas recovery. Performs cost and risk analyses on the design, contacting vendors for the rental, purchase, and shipment of equipment, and works closely with fellow employees, including Geologists, Reservoir Engineers, Drilling Engineers, and Production Engineers. Maintains records of drilling and production operations. Evaluates completion designs, plans or reworks processes to improve production, and recommends alterations to improve completion efficiency and safety. Assures the completion system is efficient and cost effective to achieve maximum production and financial goals. Conducts engineering research, and writes technical reports for engineering and management personnel. Less
