Job Description:

Enforces laws established for the protection of persons and property, having a canine as a partner. Detains, arrests, interrogates, and incarcerates suspected violators, and appears as a witness at trials. Carries out specific and specialized assignments from superior officers for city, county, State and Federal law-enforcement agencies, in accordance with established rules and procedures; such assignments may include being assigned to patrol airports and seaports sniffing baggage for illegal substances or contraband; working for the Border Patrol to help check for smuggled drugs, contraband, or humans; searching crime scenes for hidden drug stashes; searching for missing persons; or sniffing for explosives following bomb threats at schools, stadiums, etc. Patrols assigned area in car or on foot. Notes suspicious persons and establishments and reports to superior officer. Reports hazards. Disperses unruly crowds at public gatherings. Renders first aid at accidents, and investigates causes and results of accident. Inspects public establishments requiring licenses to ensure compliance with rules and regulations. Warns or arrests persons violating animal ordinances. Issues tickets to traffic violators. Writes and files daily activity reports with superior officer. Assumes responsibility for all facets of canine's care and well being, from daily exercise to keeping vaccinations current. Performs work in uniform or civilian clothes and is typically armed. Less
