Job Description:

Inspections, evaluates, and documents emission sources to determine compliance with air pollution control laws and regulations. Tests and measures air quality, and investigates dust, odor, and burn complaints. Reviews inspection reports and documentation, and recommends appropriate enforcement and settlement actions. Reviews and processes applications for, and assures compliance of, required equipment and facility permits. Conducts emissions control research. Prepares and reviews emission inventories and reports, and reviews air toxic plans and reports. Participates in meetings with various Federal, State, regional, local agencies, businesses, and/or private organizations and may respond to public inquiries regarding complex laws, rules, and regulations. Keeps abreast of changes in technology, laws, rules, and regulations that may affect areas of responsibility, and recommends procedural and operational changes as required. Works with legal staff in enforcement cases; may testify in court as required. Maintains and calibrates instruments. Maintains accurate manual and automated records and files; prepares correspondence, periodic and special reports, and other written materials as required. May administer air quality programs, such as a permitted agricultural burning program, which would consist of explaining rules and regulations, investigating complaints, and processing permits if all conditions are met. May attend settlement conferences. May conduct workshops and meetings and provide consultation and advice to individuals and businesses in matters related to area of expert knowledge. Less
