Job Description:

Supervises and coordinates all word processing activities, including word processing operators and equipment. Oversees word processors engaged in operating word processing equipment and/or computers to record, edit, store, and revise correspondence, reports, statistical tables, forms, records, documents, and similar items utilizing clerical skills and knowledge of word processing functions. Manages work flow and priorities with users to meet deadlines on routine and unusual work. Advises other departmental personnel in techniques and style of dictation and letter and document writing. Recommends changes in procedures to effect savings in time, labor, and other costs, and to improve operating efficiency. Assigns new workers to experienced workers for assistance in training. Assists subordinates in resolving problems in nonstandard situations. Supervises word processing operators engaged in reading instructions to determine procedures to be followed regarding material to be prepared or revised and required format for finished copy; typing original material from written or printed copy, machine dictation, or related sources; and proofreading and correcting typographical errors. Maintains log sheets and completes work reports for management. Evaluates job performance of subordinates and recommends appropriate personnel action. Makes recommendations for equipment or software replacement or upgrade or for relocation of equipment.
