Job Description:

Provides law enforcement and police services to a school, school grounds, and surrounding areas, patrolling by foot and veicle. Inquires into allegations of criminal incidents following Police Department policies and procedures, assisting with investigation. Supports and enforces State and local laws and ordinances. Recommends problem students needing to be referred to juvenile authorities or other governmental agencies. Maintains close contact with and builds positive relationships with students, attempting to prevent juvenile delinquency. Develops crime prevention programs and conducts security inspections to deter criminal or delinquent activities. Monitors crime statistics and works with local patrol officers and students together to design crime prevention strategies. Builds and maintains a close partnership and working relationship with School Administrator and parents in order to provide for a safe school environment. Assists school officials with their efforts to enforce school policies and procedures. Ensures School Administrator safety from emotional students by being present during school searches, which may involve weapons, controlled substances, or stolen property. Assists School Administrator in emergency crisis planning and building security matters. Attends and participates in school functions. Trains school personnel in handling crisis situations which may arise at the school. Works with teachers to develop and implement law related classes. Works with Guidance Counselors and other student support staff to assist students and to provide services to students involved in situations where referrals to service agencies are necessary.
