Job Description:

Assists food and feed producers in making better decisions leading to improved business management, lower production costs, higher levels of productivity, and higher yield, while minimizing environmental impact, through the application of geospatial and precision agriculture technologies, including global positioning systems (GPS) and geographic information systems (GIS). Applies technologies to agricultural activities, such as pest scouting, pesticide application, custom application, yield mapping, and variable rate irrigation, dealing with the production operations of a farm, from the manufacturing of equipment to the distribution of crops. Creates and analyzes maps related to crop yield, drainage systems, and other precision agriculture data. Uses computer maps to gather data and to conduct analysis on soil, crops, pests, and weather that will determine a farm's specific agribusiness needs. Utilizes knowledge of insect, diseases, and micro-organism identification and their control; basic soil concepts; basic plant functions and growth; plant identification of agronomic crops and weeds; and principles of fertilizer applications. Calibrates pesticide application equipment and operates various pieces of farm equipment. Demonstrates to farmers site-specific techniques that will increase crop production and improve or update business management, and advises them on environmentally sound farming practices.
