Job Description:

Supervises and coordinates activities of crew aboard ship. Commands ship in event Ship Captain becomes incapacitated. May be required to hold license issued by US Coast Guard, depending on waters navigated and tonnage of ship. Assures that cargo is stowed according to specifications upon inspection of holds of ship during loading. Orders crew to repair or replace defective gear and equipment after examining cargo-handling gear and lifesaving equipment. Supervises crew engaged in cleaning and maintaining decks, superstructure, and bridge of ship.
