Job Description:

Removes, transports, and disposes of various hazardous materials, including asbestos, lead, and radioactive and nuclear materials that have been identified. Uses a variety of hand and power tools and equipment, depending on the work at hand and threat of contamination. May use vacuum to trap material. May use special chemicals, scrapers, sandblasters, and high-pressure water sprayers to remove material. May remove hazardous materials after train derailments and trucking accidents. May use brooms, mops, and other tools to clean exposed areas and remove exposed items for decontamination or disposal. May use radiation survey meters to locate and evaluate materials, operate high-pressure cleaning equipment for decontamination, and package radioactive materials for transportation or disposal. May remove and treat radioactive materials generated by nuclear facilities and power plants, using a variety of hand tools.
