Job Description:

Develops and scales microbiological based products and processes in which fermentation of agricultural feedstocks and biofuels processed from fermentations of ethanol, hydrogen, microbial oils, and methane are converted into clean energy that can be used in applications including transportation, agricultural drying, and industrial heat. Develops and uses current economic models and protocols as key tools in guiding research to scale-up programs. Leads the process engineering development activity and provides technical assurance for all aspects of process design. Assists in the day-to-day operations in the development and optimization of new fermentation processes. Develops cost-effective processes to successfully convert and ferment a wide variety of plant and animal feedstocks. Designs and implements experiments and analysis of fermentation process development experiments within the scope of the relevant corporate projects and goals. Summarizes and presents experimental results to others in the company to expedite the development of the biofuels production process. Evaluates and improves experimental methods and techniques to increase lab efficiency and productivity. Works with internal Research and Development as well as external vendors and partners in developing and modeling cost-effective biomass preparation processes. Develops an expertise in economic modeling and communicating both the science and economics of process scale-up, which may include identification and management of qualified external resources as well as development and protection of the concomitant intellectual property created both internally and externally. Keeps abreast of current literature and emerging and competitive technologies in cellulosic biomass fermentation and conversion modeling.
