Job Description:

Sells spare and replaceable automotive parts, such as fuel and air filters, belts, spark plugs, fenders, mirrors,  brake disks, shocks, struts, and mufflers, in repair facility or parts store. Creates prospect list and gets new accounts. Contacts and interacts directly with new and existing retail customers to explain features and merits of automobiles parts offered, utilizing persuasive sales techniques. Ascertains make, year, and type of part needed, inspects worn, damaged, or defective part to determine replacement required, or advises customer of part needed according to description of malfunction. Analyzes and determines customers’ needs and recommends appropriate products to meet those needs. Reads catalog or computer for replacement part stock number and price. Advises customer on substitution or modification of part when part is not available. Demonstrates, if applicable, and describes products, and emphasizes the best applications and saleable features. Answers all questions concerning products, with appropriate referrals where required. Fills customer orders from stock. Calculates and quotes prices. Prepares forms or agreements, closes transactions, and secures orders. Receives payment. Marks and stores parts in stockroom or area according to prearranged system. Keeps informed of new products and product changes that might affect product sales. May take inventory of stock. May work with company technical engineering and/or manufacturing support and services to ascertain and meet customers' needs. May measure engine parts, using precision instruments, to determine whether similar parts may be machined down or built up to required size. Less
