Job Description:

Ensures the cost-effective and environmentally sound and sustainable design and maintenance of energy-using elements in buildings through the design, installation, operation, and monitoring of the mechanical, electrical, and public health systems required for the safe, comfortable, and environmentally friendly operation of modern buildings. Develops and maintains buildings, and their components, to make the most effective use of natural resources and protect public safety, including all equipment and materials involved with heating, lighting, ventilation, air-conditioning, electrical distribution, water supply, sanitation, public health, fire protection, safety systems, lifts, escalators, facade engineering, and acoustics. Plans, directs, and coordinates activities concerned with the operation, repair, maintenance, and construction of facilities, equipment, buildings, and grounds to minimize interruption and improve efficiency. Advises clients and Architects on energy use and conservation in a range of buildings and sites, aiming to minimize the environmental impact and reduce the carbon footprint. Manages and forecasts spending, using whole life cycle costing techniques, ensuring that work is kept to budget. Develops and negotiates project contracts. Liaises closely with other professionals, including Structural Engineers, Builders, Architects, Surveyors, and in-house project teams. Attends a range of project groups and technical meetings. Works with detailed diagrams, plans, and drawings. Uses specialist computer-aided design (CAD) software and other resources to design all the systems required for the project. Designs site-specific equipment as required. Commissions, organizes, and assesses the work of contractors. Oversees and supervises the installation of building systems and specifies maintenance and operating procedures. Monitors building systems and processes. Makes decisions about expired systems equipment and the appropriate location of new equipment.
