Job Description:

Develops, implements, and maintains firmware software used in consumer electronic hardware devices for specific applications and systems, such as remote controls, mobile phones, and medical devices, and provides instructions to the devices on how to operate. Designs, codes, and implements algorithms which enable the hardware to function, incorporating product and manufacturing requirements into firmware design. Alters, organizes, and models the functionality of software for various industries, including automotive, health care, and consumer electronics industries. Integrates firmware with the hardware boards. Utilizes oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and/or other test equipment to troubleshoot hardware and/or software issues. Analyzes requirements, identifies tasks, provides estimates, and works with hardware, operating systems, test, operations, and other departments to optimize product functionality, meet requirements, and meet schedule deadlines. Brings-up and tests, writes, debugs, and integrates new device drivers, protocols, and other firmware code across embedded products, using hardware and software techniques. Plans, improves, and manages software applications from inception to use. Allocates resources to complete programming projects. Designs detailed plans to ensure firmware is functioning properly. Contributes to and maintains design and user documentation. Ensures the firmware content complies with requirements specification and company practices. Maintains existing firmware and performs changes based on field requirements. Prepares and creates instructional technical manuscripts for firmware operation. May interact with customers in an advisory or management capacity if the employer is a consulting firm or software provider. Less
