Job Description:

Utilizes remote sensing technology, such as aerial photos, imaging radar, digital image analysis, and global information systems (GIS), to analyze data about the Earth's surface and solve problems in areas such as software engineering, physics, applied mathematics, geography, agriculture, hydrology, oceanography, meteorology, natural resource management, urban planning, and national security. Applies knowledge of the principles of remote sensing, remote sensors, field checking, and image processing and interpretation. Analyzes and advises on appropriate data sources, such as digital and analog aerial photographs, space and airborne sensors, image processing, and global positioning systems (GPS). Processes aerial and satellite images by computer, including specialized image processing software, to fit them to maps and enhance particular features. Creates spatial distribution maps of areas being studied. Collates detailed information and writes reports. Interprets and extracts information to support decision making. Leads field project planning, programming, and field study training. Oversees the progress and completion of area study projects.
