Job Description:

Performs molecular-based procedures and analysis of human biological material in a variety of specialized laboratories to include histocompatibility, molecular diagnostics, cytogenetics, cloning, gene therapy, forensic imaging, DNA sequencing, image cytometry, immunopathology, flow cytometry, and electron microscopy laboratories. Prepares human biological material for specialized microscopic, cellular, serologic, molecular, genetic, and image or flow cytometric analysis, performing complex technical work. Works in a specialty lab, performing varied job duties depending on the type of specialty laboratory worked in. Follows detailed standard operating procedures to perform various nucleic acid extractions from blood, bone marrow, tissues, buccal cells, amniotic fluids, and cultured cells. Assesses the quality of the sample for analysis while performing procedures related to specialized microscopic, molecular, genetic, cellular, serological, electrophoretic, or cytometric analysis. Maintains files of slides, frozen specimens, blocks, cell preparations, micrographs, DNA preparations, gel photos, results, and reports. Maintains the laboratory and performs routine equipment maintenance. Prepares stock solutions and reagents and records quality control of reagent preparation.
