Job Description:

Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in construction, installation, and repair of wooden structures and fixtures. Studies blueprints to determine dimensions of structure. Utilizes rule, framing square, and calipers to lay out floor plan and cabinetwork. Selects materials and structural units, such as lumber, prefabricated doors and cabinets of wood or plastic, and paneling, and inspects them to ensure conformance with provisions of building code and local ordinance. Determines sequence of activities concerned with fabrication, assembly, and erection of structure. Develops work schedules and assigns workers to such tasks as cutting material to size, building concrete forms, erecting wooden framework, and laying flooring. When supervising employees engaged chiefly in one occupation or craft, is required to be adept in activities of employees supervised. When supervising employees in several occupations, is required to possess general knowledge of the activities involved. Inspects work performed by subcontractors, including ductwork, wiring, and pipe installations, to ensure conformance with specifications. Installs doors, builds stairs, and lays hardwood floors. Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet deadlines. Determines priority and sequence of operations. Inspects work in progress and completed to ensure conformance to specifications. Keeps records of work in process and completed along with employee time and materials. Interprets company policy to employees and enforces company policy and practices. Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists employees in solving work problems. May supervise workers engaged in building timber structures, such as cofferdams, trestles, and supports for concrete forms. May make cost estimates for contracts. May recruit, hire, train staff, evaluate employee performance, and recommend or initiate promotions, transfers, and disciplinary action. Performs related work as required. Less
