Job Description:

Designs, develops, evaluates, and enhances biological, environmental, and health systems and products, utilizing extensive knowledge of chemical and mechanical engineering, biology, microbiology, and biomechanical principles. Analyzes and develops the systems used to manufacture bioprocess products, working in research and development for agriculture, food processing, biotechnology, thermal building, alternative fuel, pollution control, global warming, and/or pharmaceutical. Reviews and evaluates new process technology and equipment to improve efficiency, capability, quality, and effectiveness. Diagnoses and interprets bioelectric data, using signal processing techniques. Experiments with different biochemicals, such as those used in pharmaceuticals, in a sophisticated laboratory. Designs, develops, and analyzes medical diagnostic and clinical instrumentation, equipment, and procedures, using the principles of engineering and biobehavioral sciences. Analyzes existing machinery and techniques used to make products, in a manufacturing plant, and determines if they can be tweaked to increase production. Researches new materials to be used for products, and develops new applications for energy sources. Investigates preservatives, additives, nutrients, and other ingredients, in a food processing plant, to determine if they could be used to improve the quality or shelf-life of certain foods and analyzing the methods of production to ensure that Federal food safety standards are met. Interacts with other departments and groups, such as Process Development, Manufacturing, Facilities, Project Management, Quality Control, and Quality Assurance; and researches along with Life Scientists, Chemists, and Medical Scientists, on the engineering aspects of the biological systems.
