Job Description:

Services, repairs, and overhauls various aircraft components and systems including airframes, engines, electrical and hydraulic systems, propellers, avionics equipment, and aircraft instruments. Performs either line maintenance work, including routine maintenance, servicing, or emergency repairs at airline terminals, or major repairs and periodic inspections at an airline's overhaul base. Performs maintenance and repair jobs similar to those performed by airline mechanics, but may work on small piston-engine or larger turbine-powered aircraft, depending on type of business specialty. Performs a variety of diagnostic and mechanical duties on various types of aircraft. Performs scheduled and unscheduled line and hangar maintenance on a variety of single piston-engine and corporate jet aircraft. Keeps aircraft in peak operating condition. Performs scheduled maintenance, makes repairs, and completes inspections required by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Inspects engines, landing gear, instruments, pressurized sections, accessories brakes, valves, pumps, and air-conditioning systems, and other parts of the aircraft, as well as necessary maintenance and replacement of parts. Inspects planes according to schedule based on number of hours aircraft has flown, calendar days since last inspection, cycles of operation, or a combination of these factors. Uses precision instruments to measure parts for wear and uses x-ray and magnetic inspection equipment to check for invisible cracks. Replaces or repairs worn or defective parts.
