Examines articles and records defects, such as holes, stains, tears, and ripped seams. Compares articles with customer's listing or records by hand or by using listing-pricing machine. Affixes or... marks customer-identifying symbols on soiled articles by one of following methods: (1) adjusts numbered disks of marking machine by hand to set code number; places article or cloth tag under disks; depresses pedal or pulls lever that forces disks against article or tag to print code; pins or staples tag to article. (2) writes code number on garment or tag with pen and waterproof ink; pins, staples, or sews tag to garment. (3) positions garment under stapling machine and pulls lever that staples short length of tape to garment; writes identifying code on tape. (4) presses lever of clipping machine that fastens metal clip to garment. (5) depresses keys of marking machine that prints identifying symbol on garment. (6) seals identification tape on article, using patching machine and adhesive tape. Routes defective articles to mender for repairs. Sorts articles according to color, degree of soil, and type of materials or treatment.
