Job Description:

Supervises and coordinates activities of engineers, scientists, and technical staff engaged in environmental science and control, such as work needed to determine the level of pollutants in the air, water, and ground. Plans and establishes project schedules, and follows up on actual performance against estimates. Provides advice or assistance in ensuring compliance of Federal, State, and local regulations on environmental issues, which may include serving as liaison between the organization and regulatory agencies. Oversees activities related to staffing, scheduling, coordinating, and planning. Assists manager with coordination of various environmental sample collection activities and analyses, and determines sources and methods of controlling hazardous substances in the air, water, and soil. Keeps current on and interprets Federal and State laws and regulations to staff, local officials, and private citizens. Provides input to upper management for policy and program direction decisions, and ensures staff follows through with those decisions once they are established. Assists in administration of personnel functions, including recruiting, review of job descriptions and salary classifications, and selection and placement of personnel.May hire, train staff, evaluate employee performance, and recommend or initiate promotions, transfers, and disciplinary action.
