Job Description:

Treats and provides medical care to patients in a variety of patient care settings with sufficient frequency to achieve the competencies required by their discipline under the direct supervision of the attending staff. Evaluates patients’ medical, physical, and psychosocial status; provides consultations, physicals, and assessments; and develops and implements treatment plans under the direct supervision of attending physician until competent enough to perform them without direct supervision. Assumes progressive responsibility for patient care activities according to level of education, ability, and experience. Performs rounds, orders tests, medications, and therapies, and assists in surgeries. Writes admission notes, orders, progress notes, and discharge summaries; attending physicians retain responsibility for the care of patients seen by residents and must review the care of their patients. Follows facility operating procedures including OSHA, HIPAA, Workers Right to Know, clinical compliance, and general safety. Communicates effectively with attending supervising regarding the findings of evaluations, physical examinations, interpretations of diagnostic tests, and intended interventions on a continuous basis. Participates in the educational activities of the program and, assists in teaching and supervising other residents and students, as required. Participates in appropriate institutional committees and councils whose actions affect education and/or patient care including, but not limited to, quality assurance and quality improvement activities.
