Job Description:

Installs, inspects, tests, troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains electrical equipment in generating stations, substations, and in-service relays, including transformers, regulators, load tap changers, circuit switches and breakers, motor-operated and manual switches, bus work, wiring, battery banks and chargers, metal clad switchgear, and other electrical equipment and circuits. Performs testing on substation apparatus, such as power factor, transformer turns ratio, megger, ductor, battery load testing, oil sampling in circuit breakers and transformers, dielectric testing, gas sampling and processing, and other analytical tests as assigned. Identifies malfunctions or defects, determines resistance, and load, and makes adjustments or repairs. Repairs, replaces, and cleans equipment and components such as circuit breakers, brushes, and commutators. Repairs or rebuilds oil circuit breakers, transformers, and lightning arrestors by replacing worn parts. Disconnects voltage regulators for removal by other workers by loosening bolts and screws and connects replacement regulator to high-voltage line. Periodically replenishes oil in circuit breakers and transformers not needing repair. Inspects switches before repairing or replacing equipment to ensure power cutoffs. Refers to manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams, and has discussions with engineering personnel in order to troubleshoot and solve equipment problems and to determine optimum equipment functioning. Operates substation equipment, performs switching to isolate defective relays, takes clearances, and installs personal protective grounds. Prepares and maintains records detailing tests, repairs, and maintenance. Follows all safety rules and company standards.
