Repairs and rebuilds upholstered furniture, using hand tools and knowledge of fabrics and upholstery methods. Removes covering, webbing, and padding from seat, arms, back, and sides of work piece, using tack puller, chisel, and mallet. Removes defective springs by cutting cords or wires that hold them in place. Replaces webbing and springs or reties springs. Measures and cuts new covering material. Installs material on inside of arms, back, and seat, and over outside back and arms of wooden frame. Tacks or sews ornamental trim, such as braid and buttons, to cover or frame. May operate sewing machine to seam cushions and join various sections of covering material. May repair wooden frame of work piece. May refinish wooden surfaces. May upholster cornices.
