Job Description:

Manages the Health Information Management Department which is responsible for analyzing, compiling, coding, indexing, and storing permanent medical records of patients. Coordinates a staff of information gatherers and teaches information management. Typically requires a bachelor's degree in health information management and certification as a Registered Records Administrator (RRA) or RHIA. Reviews medical records for completeness and accuracy, and assigns diagnostic and procedure codes. Plans and conducts meetings with staff to ensure compliance with established departmental practices and to implement all new policies, changes, and standards. Prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual statistical reports. Reviews department performance relative to established goals. Implements changes to effect continual improvement in services provided and assures compliance with regulatory and legal requirements. Recruits, selects, trains, and motivates departmental personnel. Reviews medical records for completeness and accuracy, and assigns diagnostic and procedure codes. Provides medical records training and monitors employee work to ensure proper maintenance and release of medical records.
