Plans, develops, and oversees an organization's public relations efforts to create and maintain a favorable image, both internally and externally. Executes a program of action to earn public, employee, and shareholder understanding and acceptance. Develops and administers public relations programs and policies, including the dissemination of information about the organization through various means, including press releases, reports, public events, direct communication, and literature. Typically reports to the Chief Executive Officer or Chief Operations Officer and Public Relations Director reports to this position.

Works with the CEO and Board of Directors setting the short- and long-term strategic objectives while providing the management necessary to achieve profits, growth, and/or other goals of the organization. Identifies the strategic objectives for public relations and communicates those objectives to subordinate management. Provides the framework for planning and communication with the Board of Directors. Works with legal department and advises corporate executives on how to handle public relations issues. Achieves desired results through the use of budgets, proper contracts, and efficient decision making. Directs the preparation and control of the public relations budget to assure optimum deployment of resources within approved budget.
