Typically requires a bachelor's degree in exercise physiology or physical education and CPR certification. May be required to possess first aid certification.

Communicates with program participants concerning guidelines for a proper exercise program and continued progress. Demonstrates and instructs clients on proper exercise techniques. Designs and implements fitness/wellness/stress reduction sessions. Provides exercise and fitness instruction. Enforces fitness center policies and procedures and fair usage priorities of the fitness center machines and equipment. Educates participants in self-monitoring safety techniques. Maintains accurate participation reports. Prepares accident reports as required. Makes suggestions for future equipment purchases. May provide routine equipment maintenance.
