Hydroelectric Plant Technician:
Performs electrical and mechanical installation and maintenance duties in a hydroelectric power plant and performs duties such as preventive maintenance, welding, pipefitting, machining, and rigging. Monitors and controls operation and performance of turbine generator units and auxiliary equipment in hydroelectric power generating stations.
Tests, troubleshoots, and diagnoses malfunctions or failure of electrical or mechanical operational equipment such as generators, transformers, turbines, pumps, valves, fans, and electric control boards, using precision instruments. Informs system dispatch and supervisors of the status of operating equipment. Performs minor repairs and replaces relays, controls, governors, excitation system switches, controls, and probes. Receives and implements load and switching orders from dispatch. Tests and performs minor repairs on circuit breakers. Tests and repairs equipment circuitry, interpreting wiring diagrams to trace and connect numerous wires carrying current for independent functions. Tests and replaces printed circuit boards. Performs preventative maintenance to electrical and mechanical equipment such as motors, transformers, voltage regulators, generators, battery systems, air compressors, sump pumps, gates, and valves to correct malfunctions. Maintains electrical drawings, equipment files, sketches, reports, logs and records, changes, or alterations made to electrical systems. Takes readings and records data such as water level, temperature level, and flow rate. Changes oil, hydraulic fluid, and other lubricants, and greases fittings. (Source: eDOT Job Description)
