Develops, implements, and maintains policies and procedures, supervises staff, and maintains medical library materials such as books, reports, periodicals, serials, abstracts, medical journals, indexes, manuscripts, slides, and microfilm. Oversees professional and support staff involved in cataloging, indexing, issuing books/materials, and keeping records of items on loan. Typically requires a master's of library science degree with seven years of experience in the field.
Selects books and publications for purchase and subscribes to pertinent periodicals within budgetary limits. Prepares, posts, searches, verifies, files, and maintains a variety of manual and electronic records needed to order, receive, and circulate medical library materials. Performs routine library assignments involved in searching records for catalog copy, preparing bibliographies and book lists, and maintaining card catalogs and book shelves.
