Speech and Language Pathology Director:
Directs speech and language pathology functions, ensuring effective delivery of clinical patient care and compliance with administrative and clinical policies and procedures. Assesses clinical needs based on customer feedback, e.g., physicians and patients, and develops programs to meet identified needs. Typically requires a bachelor's degree in an accredited program in speech language pathology and seven years of Speech/Language Pathologist experience. An advanced degree may be required.
Directs and coordinates delivery of patient care for speech therapy settings to ensure compliance with clinical patient care standards, regulatory requirements, and established policies and procedures. Plans, schedules, and organizes work for employee groups ensuring proper distribution of assignments and efficient utilization of personnel, space, and facilities. Ensures that patient care documentation is complete and accurate in accordance with policies and procedures. Determines fiscal requirements of assigned areas and prepares budgetary recommendations. Ensures that staff members complete proper documentation to appropriately process, bill, and collect payments for services. Assesses, coaches, and evaluates staff level of competence and develops programs that foster continued growth and development. Maintains required records, reports, and statistics for administrative and quality assurance purposes. Interfaces with patients, families, and physicians to ensure that care is consistent with expectations. Facilitates resolution to customer services issues. Develops clinical programs based on assessment of needs within the organization. Responsible for hiring, developing, and managing a qualified staff concerned with providing speech therapy services. Prepares, manages, and monitors the departmental budget. May participate in creating and implementing marketing plans for speech/language services.
