Manages a department responsible for planning, implementation, scope, and emphasis of a long-term care facility's activity and social service program to encourage and stimulate residents to achieve fuller and richer lives. Manages social services programs in accordance with accepted medical social work practices. Works with physicians, staff, residents, and their families to assess patient social needs and facilitate progress of medical treatment. Typically requires a master's degree in social work and four years of professional social work job experience.
Assists in the development of policies regarding facility planning for health and welfare services. Plans, recommends, and administers departmental budget and physical and staff requirements within established policies, practices, and procedures. Plans, evaluates, and interprets statistical, narrative, and analytical reports to reveal department's services and needs. Hires, trains, and motivates a qualified Social Worker and Social Aide staff. Participates in community planning regarding health and social services relative to departmental program and promotes coordination and cooperation of other agencies and local officials. Provides professional counseling services to residents and families regarding programs, procedures, qualifications, and treatment for social-legal problems.
