Manages activities of nursing and support staff in a clinic or ambulatory care setting to ensure that patient needs are met in accordance with physician instructions and administrative procedures. This position requires a licensed Registered Nurse with clinical experience. Provides nursing care adapted to individual patient needs based on the nursing process, which includes assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Must be skilled to work with a wide range of staff as part of an interdisciplinary team including physicians, nurses, and ancillary staff. Performs in a leadership capacity for clinical practice. Coordinates activities of the clinic with other patient care units. Identifies problem areas in the nursing unit, such as understaffing, absenteeism, and wastefulness, and takes corrective action. May have nursing supervisor or assistant nurse managers reporting to this position. Consults with Top Nursing Executive on nursing problems and interpretation of policies to ensure that patient needs are met. Plans and organizes orientation and in-service training for unit staff members, and participates in guidance and educational programs. Hires, trains and motivates a qualified nursing staff to provide quality patient care services. Prepares work schedule and assigns duties to nursing staff in unit for efficient use of personnel.
