Counseling Services Director:
Directs personnel engaged in providing educational and vocational guidance for students and graduates. Coordinates and implements daily administrative and programmatic department needs. Advises students on course selection, admissions testing, co-curricular activities, and post-secondary planning. Assists staff to build and maintain relationships with students, colleges, partner non-profits, high school personnel, and other agencies. Conducts in-service training program and professional development seminars for professional staff.
Assigns and evaluates work of personnel. Assists students in learning their strengths and building academic and personal skills. Analyzes counseling and guidance procedures and techniques to improve quality of service. Counsels individuals and groups relative to personal and social problems and educational and vocational objectives. Assumes major role with colleges, college prep seminars, essay writing, and application workshops. Communicates with parents and mentors. Demonstrates leadership experience in planning, organizing and implementing counseling and advisement programs. Addresses community groups and faculty members to interpret counseling service. Supervises maintenance of occupational library for use by counseling personnel. Directs activities of testing and occupational service center. May supervise auxiliary services, such as student learning center. May supervise in-service training programs in counseling, testing, or occupational information for graduate students. May teach graduate courses in psychology, guidance, and related subjects. May participate in appraising eligibility of students for admission to specific colleges and universities.
