Scientific Photographer: Photographs and arranges a variety of subject material to illustrate or record scientific/engineering data or phenomena, utilizing knowledge of scientific procedures and photographic technology and techniques.
Prepares in advance methods and procedures for photographing subject material and setup and calibration of equipment required, such as photo-optical equipment, microscopes, telescopes, infrared or ultraviolet lighting, and x-ray. Operates test equipment and performs analysis of data for engineering and scientific personnel. Sets up and positions camera for photographing material or subject. Trips shutter to expose film. May install and calibrate optical and photographic data collection equipment. May prepare microscope slides. May make photographic copies of fragile documents and other material. May evaluate adequacy of data obtained to determine need for future changes in instrumentation. May engage in research to develop new photographic procedures, methods, and materials.
