Under strict supervision and in accordance with established procedures, dispenses and compounds prescribed medications, drugs, and other pharmaceuticals for patient care, according to professional standards and state and federal regulatory requirements.

In accordance with established procedures, reviews and monitors medication therapy and orders written by appropriate caregivers for safety and effectiveness considering specific patient conditions and health status. Prepares, labels and dispenses medications for patients in accordance with physicians' prescriptions and in compliance with Federal, State and local laws and regulations pertaining to the dispensing of drugs and narcotics and the maintenance of required records. Compounds medications, using standard formulas and processes, such as weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients. Maintains appropriate records of dispensing and oversees and maintains the systems that charge or credit for medications and medication treatments. Answers questions and provides information to pharmacy customers on drug interactions, side effects, dosage and storage of pharmaceuticals. Maintains established procedures concerning quality assurance, security of controlled substances, and disposal of hazardous waste drugs. Provides drug information and educates caregivers and patients regarding medications and their proper use and monitoring. Ensures that proper documentation is completed for all medications, with particular attention on controlled substances. Maintains all equipment and systems used in the preparation, oversight and dispensing of medications. Ensures that appropriate medications are available, ordered, prepared, stored and maintained. This position requires a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy and acceptance within an accredited internship program. May analyze medications to determine identity, purity, and strength.
