Supervises activities of workers engaged in production and repair of metalworking dies, jigs and fixtures, gauges, and cutting tools, applying knowledge of machining and tool and die construction.
Oversees or performs the following duties
Reads blueprint or job order for product specifications, such as dimensions and tolerances, and tooling instructions, such as feed rate, cutting speed, depth of cut, fixture, and cutting tools to be used. Installs and adjusts holding device and fastens specified cutting and shaping tools in position to enable operator to produce finished work piece to specifications, using hand tools, such as wrenches, screwdrivers, and pliers. Selects and sets speed and feed of machine according to type of operation and specified material and finish. Starts machine to obtain first-run work piece and verifies dimensional tolerances, using micrometers, gauges, and templates. Changes worn cutting tools and adjusts operation of machine, such as cutting speed, feed rate, or depth of cut, when required. (Source: eDOT Job Description)
