Information Specialist:
Directs, develops, and administers information and publication dissemination services within an organization, and develops and maintains systems for organizing and disseminating reports, articles, and other information to targeted and interested audiences. Operates and maintains records system, including receipt, storage, retrieval, and disposition.
Develops and maintains a collection of research, policy, publications, and information resources in a variety of formats. Indexes specialized scientific and technical materials. Manages records by ensuring compliance with legal requirements affecting retention, dissemination, access, and storage of information. Determines how information will be filed, managed, and marketed. Chooses how best to use automation strategies and evaluates the effectiveness of those strategies. Secures the use of resources by negotiating with vendors. Provides assistance in identifying, locating, and interpreting information. Applies knowledge of library operating procedures, online files and processing procedures, and systems analysis techniques to the solution of technical processing problems, to improve operating efficiency, or to provide better management information. Prepares regular and unique reports and other materials. May monitor regular file activities, routine updates, and batch processes to meet production schedules. May collaborate with other Technical Information Specialists, Librarians, Systems Analysts, Computer Specialists, and support personnel in planning, designing, testing, implementing, and evaluating computer applications and related technology for application to information processing.
