Provides oversight, strategic and clinical planning and coordination, program administration, special program and resource management, short- and long-range program planning, development, and evaluation, as well as an environment for staff development and patient care.

Directs a support team of care givers, which may consist of Unit Managers, Physicians, Nursing Staff, Social Workers, Dieticians, and QI Support Staff, as they provide patient care services to the elderly in hospitals, nursing homes, hospice, mental health, and geropsychiatric units. Collaborates with other health care agencies and health service providers to meet the needs of the community. Participates in quality management, clinical audit, and professional review activities. Researches geriatric medicine activities and clinical developments, which may include moving the research into development of clinical trials and ultimately to approved new practices and services.
