Coordinates submission of reports to vendors and regulatory agencies, adhering to federal mandated rules of HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996.). Reviews power-of-attorney (POA) documents and HIPAA authorizations to ensure compliance. Coordinates responses to requests for access to protected health information and requests for restrictions on the release of protected health information. Typically requires a bachelor's degree in a health related field and two years of experience in EDI systems, compliance, or claims processing systems.
Executes, maintains, and monitors daily process for reporting purposes and claim reports to outside vendors. Analyzes electronic data interface specifications for operating system, clearinghouses, and submitting providers. Analyzes the specifications of HIPAA-mandated transaction sets for compliance. Develops policies and procedures for HIPAA compliance and requirements. Documents all EDI/HIPAA processes for evaluation by the compliance committee. Ensures that all information systems related HIPAA security requirements are evaluated. Maintains current knowledge of systems tools needed to accomplish HIPAA compliance.
