Plans and conducts art therapy programs in public and private institutions to rehabilitate mentally and physically disabled clients
confers with members of medically oriented team to determine physical and psychological needs of client. Devises art therapy program to fulfill physical and psychological needs. Instructs individuals and groups in use of various art materials, such as paint, clay, and yarn. Appraises client's art projections and recovery progress. Reports findings to other members of treatment team and counsels on client's response until art therapy is discontinued. Maintains and repairs art materials and equipment.
Plans and conducts art therapy programs in public and private institutions to rehabilitate mentally and physically disabled clients. Confers with members of a medically oriented team to determine physical and psychological needs of client. Devises art therapy program to fulfill physical and psychological needs. Uses art media, images, the creative art process, and patient/client responses to artwork as reflections of an individual’s development, abilities, personality, interests, concerns, and conflicts. Instructs individuals and groups in use of various art materials, such as paint, clay, and yarn. Appraises client’s art projections and recovery progress.
Reports findings to other members of treatment team and counsels on client’s response until art therapy is discontinued. Maintains appropriate charts, records, and periodic reports on patient progress as required by agency guidelines and professional standards.
Maintains and repairs art materials and equipment. This position typically requires a Master’s degree in Art Therapy and may require registration or certification by the Art Therapy Credentials Board (ATCB). May work as part of a team that includes physicians, psychologists, nurses, rehabilitation counselors, social workers, and teachers to determine and implement a client's therapeutic, school, or mental health program.
