Works only with metal, as compared with a Rigger who works with wood, rope, or metal to set up rigging used to move equipment around the deck.

Performs stick, mig, and/or tig welding. Cuts and/or bends metal in the fabrication process. Performs grinding, beveling, marking, tallying, and loading/offloading pipe racks and trucks. Builds and dismantles scaffolds as needed. Reads blueprints and schematics. May use a winch, come-along, ropes, slings, cables, and other rigging devices to move and relocate structural materials. May perform general labor work such as loading and unloading material to and from trucks and barges. May climb and work at elevated heights.
