Manages the Health Information Management department which is responsible for analyzing, compiling, coding, indexing and storing permanent medical records of patients. Reviews medical records for completeness and accuracy, and assigns diagnostic and procedure codes. This position typically requires a Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management and certification as a Registered Records Administrator (RRA) or RHIA.
Manages the Health Information Management department which is responsible for analyzing, compiling, coding, indexing and storing permanent medical records of patients. Coordinates a staff of information gatherers and teaches information management. Plans and conducts meetings with staff to ensure compliance with established departmental practices and to implement all new policies, changes and standards. Prepares monthly, quarterly and annual statistical reports. Reviews department performance relative to established goals. Implements changes to effect continual improvement in services provided and assures compliance with regulatory and legal requirements. Recruits, selects, trains and motivates departmental personnel. Reviews medical records for completeness and accuracy, and assigns diagnostic and procedure codes. This position typically requires a Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management and certification as a Registered Records Administrator (RRA) or RHIA. Provides medical records training and monitors employee work to ensure proper maintenance and release of medical records.
