Occupational Therapy Supervisor:
Supervises occupational therapy employees, and
oversees operations of the Occupational Therapy Department.
Evaluates patients' needs, and
administers therapy to preserve and improve abilities for independent function, such as range of motion, strength, tolerance, coordination, behavioral management skills, social skills, and activities of daily living. Requires current licensure as an Occupational Therapist.
Supervises and
coordinates activities of employees engaged in planning and administering occupational therapy treatment programs to rehabilitate mentally, physically, or emotionally disabled patients. Plans and administers occupational therapy treatment programs designed to help patients or disabled persons develop or regain physical or mental functioning or adjust to disabilities. Establishes standards of work performance and methods of operation for department. Monitors work activities to ensure that employees are following prescribed procedures to meet organizational standards. Inspects daily inventory, maintains records of supply usage, and compiles periodic reports. Selects constructive activities suited to the physical capacity, intelligence level, and interest of the patient to assist in restoring independence and performance of functions, assist in adjustment to disability and prepare individual for return to employment. Assesses the learning needs and capabilities of patients and caregivers with regard to age, level of understanding, and emotional status. Utilizes appropriate methods and materials for effective learning, monitoring response to education, and adapting the treatment program appropriately. Provides concise patient care documentation. Evaluates, fits, and adjusts prosthetic, orthotic and other adaptive and assistive devices and constructs or modifies as necessary. Writes, implements, and provides documentation of individual client's treatment; maintains records to comply with Federal requirements, and writes reports indicative of progress or regression. Performs age appropriate advanced competency skills in area of practice and with respect to the individual patient's problems. Recommends discharge of patient at point of optimal benefit of treatment, making appropriate provision for continuing services if needed. Teaches skills and techniques required for participation in activities and evaluates progress. Designs and constructs special equipment and suggests adaptation of the patient's work-living environment. May be responsible for developing work schedules. (Source: eDOT Job Description)
